MMAScoops.com reports that the Nevada State Athletic Commission voted today to formalize a temporary suspension issued to Nick Diaz following his positive drug test for marijuana. A formal disciplinary hearing is now expected at a date to be determined.

NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer initially filed a complaint with the Nevada Attorney General’s Office asking to temporarily suspend Diaz’s fight license pending a formal hearing, and that was granted today. Also, NSAC commissioners requested that Diaz’s full license application and purse information be made available during the formal hearing.

Diaz broke Rule 467.850 of the commission’s administrative code, this rule bars the use of banned substances, including performance-enhancing drugs and drugs of abuse such as marijuana. He also failed a post-fight drug test following PRIDE 33 in 2007 due to marijuana, and the NSAC fined him 20 percent of his purse and suspended him six months.

Kizer stated that the commission could levy fines or suspend him, as well as revoke or place conditions on the license. He also stated the following…

“In the past, the norm for a positive test for marijuana is six months, but we have had two repeat offenders, and they both got a 12-month suspension. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what will happen here.”

Mick Foley was recently interviewed by Brian Fritz of Between The Ropes, here are the highlights…

On Being in the Rumble: “It was fun! When I watched it back, I thought that was pretty good even though there were times when I was standing around literally doing nothing. I was standing around and doing nothing with a purpose, like watching Ricardo. And I think at the end of those six or seven minutes that I was out there, I participated in some pretty good stuff. For the purists that say you should go out with a classic match, obviously the Rumble is not going to be that classic match but on the other hand, it was a huge audience. The whole back story of my kids wanting to see me in Mania was true and I had a good time. Honestly, moving forward, if I do anything in the ring, that’s probably the way I should do things — sparingly.”

On The Moment He Knew Rock Would be a Star: “Yes but it wasn’t until he got with The Nation. It was the moment — and I say this on the DVD (The Epic Journey of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) where he said, I didn’t have it verbatim but it was like ‘with all due respect Farooq, the people was to hear The Rock’. He wasn’t just a guy with The Nation because his good guy turn was over. He really embraced it and from that point on, and the video showed this, that almost he tried worked. If it didn’t work, it was quickly replaced and something else was added. But he was really good at coming up with multiple things. He was somebody who milked the same phrase until it was dry. He really put his mind and imagination to coming up with different things.”

WWE Hall of Famer Ron Simmons was on Busted Open with Dave Lagreca and Doug Mortman. You can hear Busted Open on Sirius 94, XM 208, and Sports Zone 860 on the internet.

Ron Simmons on the Hall of Fame:
These past few years have been very rewarding for me from an athletic standpoint. I have had the honor of being inducted into some very prestigious Halls of Fame, starting with the state of Georgia, the Collegiate Hall of Fame, and now the WWE Hall of Fame. But I think this one by far will hold the dearest to my heart because I know the individual effort that it takes not only to succeed but to sustain it in this business. So this one is going to take the cake for me. This tops it off for me.

Ron Simmons on becoming the first ever African-American world champion:
I’ve read a lot of stories about Jackie Robinson and Muhammad Ali and people of this nature and how that must have felt to cross those racial barriers and to try to make it to even the playing field level not only for all African-Americans, but for all people. So I now get a feeling of how they felt and that feeling is only something you can go through to describe it. I know this, it feels great to be in that situation, to open doors not only for African-Americans but for anyone that is inspiring to succeed not only in professional wrestling, but for anything that you want to do. If you stick with it and are dedicated to it, it can happen and I am living proof of that.

Ron Simmons on Bill Watts:
There is a lot of things when it comes to promoters that he and I did not see eye to eye on. But I can tell you this, that is the one man I can say that had the courage and the guts to say “you know what, it’s time for this to happen. The guy has the credentials to do this. He is a renowned athlete. He has proven himself in the ring” Bill had enough guts to say “kid if you are willing to do this with me and hang in there with me, we can make this happen.” My hat is off to him and I will be forever grateful to him.

Ron Simmons on The Rock:
They kind of kicked around a lot of ideas with him and a lot of gimmicks he went through, but he just couldn’t quite get the niche. So until he got with me and in the Nation of Domination, and he kind of off-springed from me and with that relationship he kind of got on his way from there, and found the right situation to be in, and the right persona for him. As far as getting as big as he did, I don’t even think he knew he would get this big. I can say I am proud of him and the only thing I would like for him to do is offer Farooq a part in one of his movies. Let me be a stand in, I don’t even need a speech, just offer me something (Laughing)

Ron Simmons on his relationship with JBL:
I can’t say enough about him. When I was growing up as a kid and I didn’t have the good fortune of growing up in a household with my brothers and sisters the way that I wanted to. I often wondered what it would be like in a household setting that shared things with my brothers. But due to misfortune in my family, I didn’t have that. Later on when I got to tag with him the relationship we had was just that close. He was like a brother to me. I found out what that would be like, to share things with a brother, love, laugh, disappointment. That’s what he means to me and still does. I am very grateful to this day for that. He is like a brother to me.

According to backstage sources, there are “more than a few people” within WWE who are upset about The Rock returning at the WrestleMania 28 pay-per-view.

There are some who are upset that The Rock isn’t a full-time wrestler and feel he is only coming back for a big payday and to promote several upcoming projects.

There are others who feel that you don’t want The Rock around every month because he’s a special attraction. He also brings in more “casual fans” when he returns.

While there are only a select few people who are opening complaining about The Rock, it’s said that you mostly hear about the negative feedback from people who are upset at The Rock’s haters.

It should also be noted that The Rock stays at the WWE hotel with the other talents and doesn’t request any “special services” when he returns. Basically, he doesn’t act like a “Hollywood Diva”.
