CHIKARA Smack In The Middle Results 6.24.12

I was in attendance for “Smack in the Middle” held at the Pastime Athletic Club in Syracuse, NY. It wasn’t a bad show overall, but it felt like a WWE house show, it was all straight up matches, there wasn’t any angles or storyline advancements.

Gavin Loudspeaker opened the show by saying how great it was to be in Rochester, NY, which didn’t go over very well. He said it was a family show and asked everyone to watch their language. He also announced that Saturyne wasn’t at the show, so a bonus match was going to take
place.

1. Green Ant beat deviANT with the Chikara Special in an intense opener, and reclaimed the mask that was stolen.

2. Jakob Hammermeier beat Sugar Dunkerton, this wound up being the bonus match. Jakob did his own ring announcement then ran back and came out again as a wrestler. Lots of comedy here, between Sugar D attacking Jakob’s hair and the basket ball coming into play. Jakob wins with a neck breaker.

3. Jigsaw beat the Shard in another intense Sekigun vs, Gekido match, this one was brutal, at one point Shard did a running Alabama Slam into the corner that everyone thought killed Jigsaw, but Jig kicked out at two, and wound up winning with a flying body press. Shard even got some chants afterwards.

4. Sara Del Rey beat Tim Donst. More hair related comedy here, since Donst just lost his hair a few weeks ago, and Sara kept taunting him about it. Sara out-wrestled the mat wrestling machine and reversed the Donstitution with a roll up. Two guys at ringside were hard core Donst fans having seen him work CWA in Canada, and at one point someone went over to ask them to keep it down.

5. Ultramantis Black and Hallowicked beat the Bravado Bros when Mantis got devious and rolled up Harlem with a handful of tights.

6. Mr. Touchdown beat Jason Axe, Tripp Cassidy, and Ryan Rush to advance in the Young Lion’s Cup. Huge pop for Axe, a 2CW regular. There was a funny bit when Cassidy tries to crowd play and everyone
started chanting “Jason Axe,” Axe eliminates Cassidy about three minutes in, to a big pop, and then less than a minute later Rush eliminated Axe to big heat. Rush looked impressive with some flying, but Mr. Touchdown scored the win.

7. assailANT beat Soldier Ant. This was another intense match, with them brawling all over ringside. Soldier Ant seemed to have it won with a series of flying splashes, but he went up too often and assailANT yanked him down and he hit his head on the buckle and was pinned. assaiANT went for his mask, but he fought back and dropped him with a big Samoan drop.

8. Gran Akuma and 3.Ole beat FIST and Ophidian. There was lots of comedy here too, with Generico and 3.0 being funny and Akuma refusing to join in. Akuma seemed to be getting mad that he wasn’t being tagged
in, but he finally got in. He hit a frog splash for a near fall and then Jagged asked if he’d seen Ready to Rumble and that all four needed to go up at one. Akuma refused to partake. Matthews makes Ophidian tap out to the crab and Akuma stared down Icarus.

9. Main Event. Eddie Kingston beat Dasher Hatfield to retain the Grand Championship. King layed out a big beating, but Dasher kept on fighting back, he even kicked out when King hit the Backfist, but after several backdrop suplexes, he stayed down.

After the show Mantis, Generico, Green Ant, and Chuck Taylor were at the table signing autographs, and Soldier Ant was saluting people by the door.
