Backstage Update – The Undertaker vs. CM Punk

As we reported yesterday here on the website, The Undertaker is expected back on TV shortly, possibly as soon as Monday’s Old School RAW.

As of last week, The Undertaker vs. CM Punk was official for WrestleMania 29. At this time, creative is said to be scrambling to fast track the angle, which started with Punk’s promo on Monday referring to himself as an “icon” above Superstars and God.

Internally, there is concern with building to the match due to Punk losing two PPVs in a row and then to Cena on Monday. Many feel that the loss to Undertaker at WrestleMania could really damage one of the two names (the other being John Cena) who show they can draw on the road currently.

Let Punk beat the streak. Taker has at most 2 matches left in him and although retiring with his streak would be a great achievement, he doesn’t need it. He already has legendary status and Punk doesn’t. If Punk beats the streak, he would take a huge step to reaching legendary status. Like Foley said, it’s only a statistic. I’m a Punk fan so my opinion might be a little biased. And besides, Punk and Taker have feuded before so how a new storyline can be started I don’t know, but we all know the ending if the streak has to be kept unbroken

What would be the point of that? Punk already established himself enough, especially with his last WWE title reign, I think that him breaking the streak would be pointless as fuck more than anything.

The point is he’s THE BEST IN THE WORLD! FuckCmPunkFans troll go! I complemented Punk!

As far as beating the streak I agree with you. One of 2 things has to happen eventually though. Taker needs to retire. His body can only handle 1 match a year anymore. He’s done tremendous things for pro wrestling as a whole, but we’re starting to approach quality of life area. If he keeps going (especially if it’s HHH/Taker death match style) he isn’t going to be able to enjoy raising his kid or even enjoy retirement. I love Taker. I have so many fond memories of Taker (Mankind v Taker Hell In A Cell anyone?). I’d hate to see him barely able to get around without constant pain for the rest of his days.

Obviously the guy can still go in the ring. He and Trips had 2 of the more memorable matches in recent memory. He can only do it once, maybe twice a year. I’d hate to see him go but it might be time to put the urn on the mantle and call it a career.

And what would be the point of keeping the streak alive? There’s no need for an unbeaten streak to make the Undertaker legendary, so why not use the breaking of the streak to put a present superstar over. You do have a point that Punk has established himself, but enough? I don’t think so. He hasn’t reached that certain level like Cena, Rock and Austin despite his title reign

I personally think that if the streak is going to be broken, let an up-and-coming star end it. Punk is already a certified main-eventer, sure it could elevate him a bit higher, but i dont see punk being around longer than 5, maybe 6 years tops. Whoever Mcmahon decides to push as the next face of the company, that person should break the streak, if anyone. When Undertaker retires, the majority of the fans will remember Taker for the streak. To have that taken away for no reason seems pointless to me.

I’ve actually thought about this too. My suggestion would be for Punk to lose at ‘Mania, then lose Heyman as manager (have him written off TV or go back as Lesnar’s manager), and finally play this as Punk’s worst year in the WWE, possibly to play up a future, if temporary, face angle where he fights for redemption, leading up to a major WM30 match where he wins.

cm punk sucks!! he doesn’t deserve to face the undertaker
