WWE Royal Rumble 2014
The WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view opens with the usual bad ass video package we have all come to expect from the WWE pay-per-view opening. The package shows past Royal Rumble matches, people going on to WrestleMania as a result of winning the Rumble, etc. Cool stuff as usual.
When the video package concludes, we shoot live to the arena where a whole ton of pyro explodes and Michael Cole welcomes us to the 2014 Royal Rumble pay-per-view. He says we’re on the road to WrestleMania with the 27th annual Royal Rumble. From there, Daniel Bryan’s music hits and an enormous pop erupts in Pittsburgh.
Daniel Bryan vs. Bray Wyatt
Bryan “Yes!” marches his way to the ring and the crowd is loud as HELL doing the “Yes!” chant and generally cheering for Bryan. Very, very loud reaction for Daniel Bryan in Pittsburgh. We shoot to the announce table and the guys talk about being excited for tonight. They introduce the Spanish announce team where the Spanish commentary guys, including Ricardo Rodriguez, say stuff in Spanish. The Wyatt Family appears on the titantron, “we’re here.” The crowd boo’s. As Bray makes his way to the ring, some video packages air showing the history of the Wyatt-Bryan feud. Bray blows out the candle while sitting in his rocking chair, accompanied by Erick Rowan and Luke Harper. Wyatt heads to the ring where Bryan is waiting for him. A loud “Daniel Bryan” chant breaks out from literally everyone in the building. Very loud chants.
We see some closeups of Bray staring with his eyes wide open talking to himself as the bell rings. Bray yells “you tried to make a fool outta me!” as the crowd is split between a “Yes! Yes! Yes!” chant and a “Daniel Bryan! Daniel Bryan!” chant. Bray and Bryan lock up and Bray over-powers the smaller man early on. Bray yells “you will receive no mercy from me!” as he punishes Bryan. Bryan tries fighting back briefly, but Bray cuts his attempts short. Bryan dives through the ropes out of nowhere and nails Luke Harper. As Erick Rowan tries to beat up Bryan on the floor, the referee sticks his head through the ropes and he ejects Harper and Rowan from the match. Bray goes out and tells them he doesn’t need them to fight this war for him. Rowan and Harper leave. As soon as Bray turns around, Bryan comes flying off the top and splashes onto Bray on the floor.
The announcers keep mentioning that Bray is grabbing his leg a lot. A loud “Daniel Bryan” chant breaks out as the action returns to the ring. Bryan hits Bray with a ton of “Yes!” kicks. Bryan hops up onto the top rope but Bray chops him so hard that he falls over and crashes out onto the floor. Bray goes out after Bryan on the floor. Bray runs at Bryan but Bryan moves and Bray crashes into the ringside steps. He grabs his leg and screams out in pain as the announcers again sell the fact that Bray’s leg is hurt.
Back in the ring, Bryan is now targeting Bray’s hurt leg with repeated kicks. The announcers put over new WWE Tag-Team Champions The New Age Outlaws by pointing out that “#NewAgeOutlaws” is trending number one overall in the world. Meanwhile, Bryan continues to work on the leg of Bray. Bray nearly suplexes Bryan out to the floor but instead snaps his arm down hard to the apron.
The action is out on the floor now and Bray is stomping Bryan’s head into the ground. The crowd starts up with another loud “Daniel Bryan” chant as Bray throws Bryan back in the ring. Bray launches Bryan half-way across the ring with a suplex-throw sort of move. A “Husky Harris” chant breaks out as Bray continues his attack on Bryan. Bray throws Bryan over the top and onto the floor just as Bryan was trying to fight back. Bray leans Bryan’s head against the ring post and repeatedly smashes it with forearms.
Out on the floor again and Bray runs and splashes onto Bryan. Bray says “I tried to tell ya’ll.” He then yells at the fans, “why didn’t you help him?!” Bray throws Bryan back in the ring. Bray bashes each side of Bryan’s head with forearms before settling into a choke. The crowd tries to rally behind Bryan and get him back into the match. Bray nails Bryan with a big chokeslam type of move. Bray does his crab-walk/amateur wrestling bridge thing. He gets back up and splashes Bryan in the corner. Bray scoops Bryan up and slams him in the center of the ring. Bray tries to splash Bryan but Bryan rolls out of the way.
Both guys get to their feet and Bryan starts fighting back with “Yes!” kicks. Bray misses a splash in the corner and Bryan continues to kick the crap out of Bray. Bryan and Bray go to the top and Bryan hits a huricanrana on Bray for a near fall. A “this is awesome” chant breaks out as Bryan continues to kick Bray. Both guys hit the ropes and Bray smashes into Bryan hard. When they get up, Bray tries running at Bryan again but Bryan pulls the ropes down and Bray goes flying out to the floor. Bryan comes off the apron and catches Bray with a spinning tornado DDT on the floor.
As the fight continues on the floor, Bryan runs at Bray and hits him with a double-foot dropkick. Back in the ring, Bryan comes off the top and hits him with a double-foot dropkick again. The crowd is exploding with “Yes!” chants again as Bryan repeatedly kicks Bray. Bryan runs at Bray and hits him with a big kick in the corner. He does it again. When he goes for it a third time, Bray runs at Bryan and nails him with a wicked clothesline that turns Bryan inside out. Wow.
Bray sets Bryan up for Sister Abigail but Bryan reverses it into a roll-up pin attempt. Bryan slaps Bray in the “Yes! Lock” and sinches up on it hard. Bray starts biting Bryan and eventually bites his way out of it. Bray pounds Bryan on the ground. Bray sits Bryan on the top rope as a light “this is awesome” chant begins to grow.
